Celebrating Women’s History Month with Frankie Bruner

“In 1996, at the age of 27, I started working for Royal American Management, not fully grasping how this role would shape my career and personal growth for years to come.

My journey here started after working in the accounting department of a chain of convenience stores located in Panama City, FL — Sunshine Jr. stores.

When I joined Royal American Management, the landscape was vastly different—way fewer sites, less technology, and everything was managed on paper.

I worked for Donna Brill at the time, and she trained me on Rent Manager software.  Before the internet and Microsoft era, we balanced accounts using a pegboard system, requiring a meticulous hands-on approach.

My initial training was under the guidance of Susan Haselden.  I assumed her position when she was promoted. She not only taught me the ropes, she also instilled in me the values of perseverance and adaptability. These early days were foundational, shaping my work ethic and my understanding of the business. The turning point in my career came in 2009 when Connie Bernhard, AA RAM Rural Development, retired. Seeing an opportunity to grow, I approached Mark Fejes, RD RM, expressing my desire to step into Connie’s role. With Connie’s mentorship, I transitioned smoothly, embracing the responsibilities and challenges that came with the position. Since then, I’ve been part of the Operations team, witnessing and adapting to significant changes, including the shift from TimberScan to RealPage accounting systems.

This evolution reflects not just a change in technology but also the continuous growth and learning that has marked my time Royal American Management.

Looking back, one of the most enriching aspects of my journey has been the relationships I’ve built over the past 27 years. My coworkers have become like family, supporting me through every challenge and celebrating every achievement. One thing is for sure, the learning at Royal American never stops. Each day brings new challenges, opportunities to grow, and the chance to make a difference.

Now, overseeing three portfolios under the supervision of Melissa Nichols, and three Regional Managers, I reflect on my journey here with a sense of pride and gratitude. Royal American Management has not only been a workplace but a place of growth, learning, and meaningful connections. Sharing my story, I hope to inspire the next generation of women to embrace change, seek growth, and cherish the relationships built along the way.”
